Before you buy FAQs

What do your bike classification gradings mean?

To make it easy to know if one of our bikes is right for you, and how you want to ride it, they’re all clearly marked with their intended usage – both here on the website and physically on them.

From road, to cross (gravel), trail and beyond, this will help tell you if the bike you’re looking at is the right one for you. Looking at a category three (3) trail bike but want to race enduro? You’ll need to look up to our category four (4) bikes. Want a gravel bike or to ride around town? A category two (2) ‘cross’ will be right for you. Simple. You can learn more about our bike classifications here.

How do I find the right bike size for me?

Finding the right frame size for you starts with your knowing your height (in either centimetres or feet and inches); each bike has its own our size guide chart on our website to help you determine which of our frame sizes would best suit you. Just find your height within the bike size ranges to find your recommended bike size. For example, if you’re 190cm/6’2” tall, then our XL frame should suit you perfectly; similarly, if you’re 160cm/5’3” then our S frame should be right for you.

Every bike's product page on our website has a clear size chart that includes size-overlap zones to help you find the right size for you (see below example).

Size Chart.jpg__PID:63535adb-66b7-4b20-8b7f-de136b680337

These charts vary from bike-to bike so make sure you look at the size guide on the specific bike you’re interested in.

This is intended as a starting point to help you select the best frame size to suit you and your riding style. We recommend you visit your local Whyte dealer for more in-depth bike sizing assistance. They’ll be able to make sure you purchase the optimum sized bike to get the best riding experience.

You can find – and contact – your local Whyte dealer here.

How do I find a bike’s size chart?

On any bike product page here on our website, just click on ‘Size guide’ text below the size buttons. These charts include both metric and imperial height measurements and reach and stack measurements to give you as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision.

If you’re in any doubt as to which bike size to go for, just visit your local Whyte dealer who’ll be able to help you find the right size for you and where you’ll be able to try different sizes of bikes to help your decision.

You can find – and contact – your local Whyte dealer here.

What should I do if I’m in-between sizes?

Height is a general starting point but if you’re in-between sizes – for example, if you’re 178cm/5’10” tall then you could fit either a size M or L bike – then it’s not quite as clear cut. If this is the case for you, then know that both frames will fit you*. But which one will be right for you will come down to personal preference insofar as how you want your bike to ride, as well as your body dimensions.

If you prefer a more stable bike – particularly on descents and at speed, and one that feels more confident to ride that’s also less affected by rider weight shifts – then size up to the larger frame size; if, however, you want a bike that’s more agile and responsive – and that’s easier to move around – then size down to the smaller frame size. It’s like choosing a more stable long-board surfboard or a snappier short-board surfboard.

That all said, know your body. If you have longer legs and a shorter torso and arms, then you’ll likely be better on the smaller frame size so size down; if you have a longer torso and arms than average, then you’ll likely have a better ride on the larger frame size, so size up.

*You can tailor your bike fit to a degree by rotating your bars forwards or backwards slightly, trimming the width of your mountain bike handlebar, by changing your stem length (use a longer one to give you a more stretched out position and more reach to the bars, or a shorter one for a more upright riding position and less reach to the bars), raising or lowering your saddle height, or a combination of all of these.

Again, if you’re in any doubt as to which bike size to go for, just visit your local Whyte dealer who’ll be able to help you find the right size for you and where you’ll be able to try different sizes of bikes to help your decision.

You can find – and contact – your local Whyte dealer here.

What about gravel bike sizing?

If you’re interested in our pre-2025 gravel bikes then their sizing is slightly different. Rather than using S, M, L or XL to denote each size, our previous gravel bikes were sized from 50cm, 52cm, 54cm, 56cm, and 58cm but each was essentially XS, S, M, L, and XL.

Our gravel bikes also generally sized larger than other brand’s road/gravel bikes – so if you’re a 56cm on another brand’s road or gravel bike then you’ll likely need to size down to a 54cm for one of our gravel bikes. Again, if you’re in any doubt, just get in touch with your Whyte dealer who’ll be happy to help.

You can find – and contact – your local Whyte dealer here.

What about men’s and women’s bikes?

We don’t make gender-specific bikes – instead, we’ve designed all our bikes to work brilliantly for everyone. Simply find the right size for you by following our advice above and if you’re in any doubt, just visit your local Whyte dealer who’ll be able to help you find the right size for you.

You can find – and contact – your local Whyte dealer here.

Where can I find the weight of a bike?

We publish guide weights for our production bikes on every product page on our website and clarify the size of bike measured as well as what these weights do/do not include for clarity; for example, whether a listed bike weight includes innertubes, pedals, or even a range extender. All our listed weights are on production bikes and are made using calibrated scale for best accuracy. This information can be found on each bike’s product page – either in the description text and/or in the specification table further down.

Please take this information as a guideline as sometimes specifications can change, or there may be slight variances in the bike or its components which affects the weight of a particular bike (for example, more or less rubber in tyres).

For this reason, we do recommend visiting your local Whyte dealer and checking out the bike you’re interested in, in person. This will give a much better impression of how the bike will ride and if it will be a good fit for the type of riding you do. You can find – and contact – your local Whyte dealer here.

What is the maximum weight your bikes can carry?

As a general rule, most Whyte bikes can carry a maximum load of up to 120kgs (including rider and any luggage). Some bikes can carry more so please check the manual for your bike for more detailed model specific information on weight limits (shown here).

What range can I expect from a Bosch-powered eBike?

The maximum range you can expect from an eBike is dependent on many factors – including combined bike and rider (‘system’) weight, ground conditions, temperature, riding style, and much more. Bosch do have a handy online range estimator that will give you an estimate on how far you can travel on a charge based on the parameters you enter – check it out here.

Need more help?

Can I fit longer travel forks to my Whyte mountain bike?

Our design team work hard to optimize the geometry of Whyte mountain bikes to get the best from the suspension they’re fitted with at the factory. If you wish to fit a longer travel fork, the maximum acceptable travel over the standard fork is 10mm.

What is the largest tyre size I can fit to my bike?

Whyte bikes are optimized to work brilliantly with the tyres they come with when new. In most cases it is possible to fit larger tyres. We do our best to note maximum tyre sizes that can be fitted to any given bike on its product page but as there are many tyre manufacturers, sadly, we can’t test every possible wheel/tyre/frame combination. If you do decide to fit larger tyres to your Whyte bike, make sure there is at least 6mm clearance between the tyre and the frame to allow debris to pass without impeding the wheel.

Where can I find my bike’s frame number?

Usually located on the underside of the bottom bracket (BB) shell. Some newer models have the number located on the underside of the lower section of the downtube. For eMTBs it's stamped on the inside of the downtube battery housing (battery cover needs careful removal).

What is the QR code on my bike for?

If your bike is from 2020 onwards, there is a QR code marked on the frame. If you scan the QR code marked on your bike using your smartphone, it will take you to a web page with specifications and helpful technical information relating to your bike.

Can I fit a range extender to a Whyte eMTB?

Select 2025 Whyte eMTBs, including the ELyte and ELyte EVO ranges, are all compatible with Bosch’s PowerMore range extenders (and select models come with them included). However, our current E-160 and E-180 eMTBs are not compatible.

Our RHeO range of eCity, leisure and commuter eBikes are all compatible with Kynamic’s aftermarket range extender.

Can I fit lights to a Whyte eBike and power them through the main bike battery?

Yes, our Bosch- (and previous Shimano-) powered eBikes have the capability to power aftermarket lights. If you visit your Whyte eBike dealer, they will be able to help select an aftermarket light and enable the bike’s onboard firmware to operate it.

Our RHeO eBikes already come with lights as standard.

Will a particular aftermarket part or accessory fit my Whyte bike?

Due to the huge variety of aftermarket parts and accessories available for bikes today, it’s not possible for us to test every combination of parts and bikes that you may want to use. For that reason, it’s not possible for us to provide endorsements or recommendations on aftermarket parts to fit to your bike.

If you are thinking of modifying your Whyte bike, it’d be a good option to visit your local Whyte dealer. The shop team will be able to supply information on the suitability of parts to fit your bike.
